To a friend

To a friend

A Poem by P. Kapper
"

Some people come into your life as acquainances, some as friends. Some become so much more! Those friends who become family.

"

What have we become?

We used to be so close

You were my rock

The shoulder I needed

The strength to keep me strong

A laugh to stop my tears

A hug to stop my fears

The friend among friends

The vault for my ideas

The voice of all reasons

But something changed

Is it me?

Did I lose you?

I’ve always been there

And I always will

But you don’t call on me

Like you had before

Your name isn’t on my phone

As often as it had

Is this the product

Of choices I have made

I count on your support

Your opinion matters to me

Where did we break away?

Did I do something wrong?

Did I break your trust?

Please, please tell me

In a world of friends

You were the best

You are the best

My partner in crime

But this distance…

This unceremonious fall

It cuts like a knife

In a world of fakes

Our friendship was real

I miss your laugh

I miss your smile

Do you?

So this is my plea

To be the friend to me

Like you used to be

For I haven’t forgotten

The debt of gratitude

That I owe to you

For you aren’t a friend

You are my family
