INDEPENDANCE DAY

INDEPENDANCE DAY

A Poem by Kim

Independence day provokes lots of emotion

I saw a gentleman salute the flag

As a tear rolled down his face

Could he be remembering buddies

Who never made it home

Or the terrors he had seen

I saw a picture today of a soldier

With his rifle in hand

He kneeled down to pet a cat

A moment of peace with war all around

A moment in time, a Marines final sacrifice

His flag draped coffin being laid to rest

A prayer in the night that they will make it another day

Many at home saying the same prayer

The Red, White and Blue

Stands for freedom and strenght

Honor the flag for it

Represents both sacrifice and life

And the love of a nation
