WHAT IF...

How can my mind even go there

The forbidden one

I'd run my fingers through his hair

And look into those deep soulful eyes

 

We understand each other

Like no one else can

But yet it is taboo

Why? why is life unfair?

 

Oh the way he makes me laugh

And brings out the clown in me

And yet he see's and understands the hurt

Deep down inside that no one else can see

 

If only we had met at a different time

My heart, soul, mind, and life

Could be so different

My mind drifts away

To a what if world...

I wanted to thank you for the review you wrote on my poem and tell you how much I loved this one of yours. I can almost reach out and touch the longing and yearning, almost desparation for this man in your poem! I can relate on the "bad timing" with love. I have learned that in life though, some people are meant to be in your life as stepping stones for a season. Maybe it was just meant for you to meet this prototype to show you that there is something greater, and to learn from this and take it to the next relationship. It's amazing how many people go through this, but in ever story I've heard where they left the one they were with for someone else, most of the time it was very rocky and frequently stayed together to try to prove the former lover wrong. Such a sad sad tale.

Thank you for sharing this, it really brought to roaring life feelings and emotions long forgotten. You wrote the heart well. :)
