To You

To a friend who has always been there.

I love you, I always will,

You make me want to be a better person,

You have made me a better person.

Without you in my life,

It would have not been complete.

You taught me to see the world in a light

I never would have dreamed of before.

 

They said we were all wrong,

What did they ever know about you and me?

They said we never stood a chance,

It is over now, but there is nothing I regret about you.

 

There is nothing I would take back between you and me.

You taught me so much in the time we shared,

 I know we will both move on,

I know we will find someone else,

But the thought of you

 The impact you have had on my life will never be forgotten.

 

There were times when I doubted the feelings I felt inside,

Now if I had one more day, just one

I would not waste it on not telling you how much you mean to me

And always have and always will.

 

You have been the core of my soul,

My rock, when I was weak,

My best friend, when no one else was.

 

You shaped me into a person I am proud to be.

You did this for me.

 

There will never be enough ways to thank you

For all you have done,

For being you.

My grandmother always said two things, "if you are blessed to have one true in your life then you are blessed," and also that we are known by who are friend's are. Both statements are true and I'm happy to see that you have blessed by such a wonderful friendship as you describe here. It's amazing the difference one person can make in another one's life. This poem has got me thinking about my own friends - including you of course - and I feel blessed to know them. This is a lovely tribute not only to your great friend, but really to what friendship really should be. :)
