Snapshots of a Teenage Girl

Snapshots of a Teenage Girl

A Poem by Katherine Vice

Here she is,
sitting out Homecoming on the wall,
sipping punch from a clear plastic cup.

Here she is,
declining the teacher's request
for last night's homework with a shrug.

Here she is,
nine years old, catching lightning bugs
without any holes in the lid.

Here she is,
alone again at the payphone
wasting her change on a father who won't pick up.

You create a sad vision and place in the poetry. It is hard on kids when they feel alone. A lesson in your words. We need to listen and pay attention to the people we love near and far. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry. You write with a skill and talented pen.
