Her True Destiny

Her True Destiny

A Poem by Kat
"

What my friends sentenced death has taught me.

"
I stopped crying
I only went numb
Until I got the message
That her life was almost done

She is so young
And still so full of life
Yet here she is at deaths door
And there is no turning back

I cried for her
and I cried for me
Until I saw
Her bright white teeth

She still laughed
And joked around
Her life still seemed the same
As if nothing had changed

I realized then
How death is only what we think
This was her way of peace
Not a doomed destiny

She wanted to remember the days
Of jokes and childish plays
She wanted to know I'd be there
To walk her the rest of the way

She is always going to live
Only just though me
Because she has made me who I am
And that was her destiny

a wonderful look at mortality and how we can look at it differently, away from sadness and towards joy.
