Light

Light

A Poem by Kayla Hickey

She may radiate like the sun,
as if she knows nothing but the light.
Her smile may light up a room,
and her laugh may seem to lead nature in song.

Do not be fooled,
she knows the darkness all too well.
She lives with it every day.
It resides in her bones, in her blood.

Her past has shown her how to survive.
It taught her to greet every day with a smile.
She knows how to be the light in the darkness
because she was forged in the fire.
