A Poem by Kaylyn

The light from the late night coffee shop

interrupts the peaceful darkness of night.

The busy rush of the day is long gone,

a few stragglers left.

One man, sitting alone, after a long day.

He is still in his work apparel.

He converses with the white dressed server behind the counter.

The young lovers,

Spending a night out on the town.

Their adventure winding down,

end their evening with coffee.

The bright red of the woman’s hair and dress,

contrasting her sweetheart’s dark black and grey attire.

The other half of the couple,

while lightly holding his girl’s hand,

lazily listens in to the two men’s conversation.

The day and the night have been long.

Exhausting and exhilarating in each person’s own way.

I may have wandered into a classroom by mistake...

But...

There is emotion within reality that isn't present with just observance. I've sat within cafe`s, touched and been touched. Friends, loves, frenemies, the wannabees, dreamers, wish-they-weres - are part and parcel of life and share space with the mere mortals the rest of us are. To me this poem has a chance ...to grow... as the person behind your eyes expands into her now.
