Small Victory

Small Victory

A Poem by kelsey_barrington

I knew it would happen.

Every year Fall comes barging in
demanding to know what I plan to do with my life
now that the distractions of summer have faded.

Move somewhere warm.
Obviously.
Somewhere where summer isn’t ending.

But here I stay, year after year.
The wildfire eyes of autumn burning into my soul.

Not this time.

Her eyes are mine.
That fire, my desire
for something more.

Something that only presents itself
when the summer sun finally sets.
