Deprived

Deprived

A Poem by Kendall Edison

You young ones sit and listen to the story

Of the unknown, unwanted, unappreciated

We deserve our three wishes because

We can reach the lamp

We want magic so we can fly

We want beauty

To be wanted

Roses just so we can be loved

We want peace because we are deprived

We want power so we can rule

We can’t have our wishes

Because the lamp is old and tarnished

And you try to keep it out of our reach

We can’t have our magic because we don’t have power

We can’t have beauty because beauty must pass

We can’t be loved because our rose has withered

And died

We can’t have peace because we are deprived
