Gargoyles

Gargoyles

A Poem by Kelli L Harshey Hopkins
"

Facing inner demons

"

Gargoyles (poem)

Sitting in the corners of the ceiling

Watching me with steady eyes

What are they trying to tell me?

Are they my fears in disguise?

They are silent and still

Staring down at me

Their presence feels real

Though no one else can see

Cover them up with the pills

Make them go away

Maybe I can face them

On another day

But I know they will come back

Until the truth is out

My memories that are hiding

Though silent, they want to shout

Will I close my eyes

Make them go away?

Or will I open myself to the lesson

And hear what they have to say?

Only then will they go away……

Inner demons are tricky things to deal with at the best of times. I like how you ended the poem, especially your choice of words "or will I open myself to the lesson ...?"
