the mask

the mask

A Poem by AKhaus

I can take off all my clothes but yet I am still not bare to you
My eyes drift beyond you
Understand that what you've been wearing is not quite the face I thought I saw
So easily fooled by my own imagination
Willing to stand in the rising waters
Hoping the page would turn, the story would develop
that lace that binds that shell to your face, its frightening when I finally see
What lies have I been diluting myself in
Now I move
Now I wake
Again I feel what it is to be me
