Mortal

Mortal

A Poem by AKhaus

She crumbled to ashes in my hands as her spirit lifted away from me.
I felt the ground shake and a pit of despair open to take me down.
What walls I had disappeared and I was naked in front of the fire.
My foundation had slipped away and my mind could not comprehend this, this absolute empty space where her arms should still be.
I keep walking and trying to listen to my dragonflies as they speed past my ears and the water lights under her moonlight, but I still feel a void.
The mortal can be so unkind.
The eternal just stands idly by and my soul torn in two.
And all I can declare is that I love you
