A poem fragment to his beloved

I gave my love to you once long before,

not knowing where this solemn dream would lead,

or whether it would turn into a bore,

or likely grow tough;strong enough to breed.

Can distant Hope be far from Fancy's sight?

Shall Time detain the days of wistful Love?

Nay, my love for you shall reach Heaven's light.

Yea, Fancy's cry shall echo high above.

Should I see hues of visionary halls so bright!
