The Great!

The Great!

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look at Alexander the Great.

"

Power of the sun harnessed within you,

Times before Christ you regent of all,

A warrior of time and of equals,

The loving heart to crush enemies to fall.

Waiting in wings of respect and silence,

Staring always at that man made of stone,

Till death you harnessed men all around,

Then finally succeeding your father to the throne.

A heart of honesty yet held gripped by the mind,

Those many people surround and trust decides,

A child comes forth to rest in your arms,

No love leaves most but in your soul resides.

Many wives have claimed your seed their own,

You refuse as the Great you certainly are,

Yet give hope and guilds to that Persian boy,

Alexander the cities now crumble my shining star.

Alexander was, indeed, one of the greatest warriors ever to walk the earth and felled many a mighty kingdom with his military genius and massive armies. sad, indeed, how he met his end. it is thought he may have been poisoned by those whom he most trusted, and that he was weakened by love. military strategists still study his actions to this very day. this is an amazing and complex write, but it truly delivers!

Lauded in history for the delivery of so much tragedy and horror. He may have been a conquering hero, but so, once upon a time, were such as Ghengis Khan, Hitler, and Saddam.

Oh do, I highly recommend it.
It is a shame a man has to die to be so thought of.

I love your flow and style. You seem like the kind of writer who chooses his words very carefully, and I admire that! Great job and keep up the good work!

thank you
A poem that takes us into the past, to see him at his best and his weakest. Good imagery :) That opening line is great :)

A thoughtful tribute, you actually have summed up the strength and brilliance of one of History's more formidable and tremendous figures.

Thank you
There was a man of ambition who took the notion of uniting the world as being entirely physical. But to have made the attempt at 25 years of age is indeed a formidable achievement.

INdeed thank you
One of the great men of history. Hard to find the real story of the past today. People change history for their advantage. I enjoyed your description. Thank you for sharing poetry my friend.

Thank you
I very much like your take on the compact epic, Thomas. I presume that you, like I, trust in the annals of history. But how much of any person that becomes legend is fact versus the buttressing and adornment of the poet? Should we, the reader, give more weight to fact or demur to the thrill of the embellished storied? Perhaps, with understanding, there is room for both.

Thats what I like to believe, that both are here now, so we can enjoy them at will.
