A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A tiny insight into war and her slain!

"

The horrid year we bound young and willing for death,

The issue was to relieve those there now haggard,

Dust flew from an earth now stained with bloods,

A captain made sure to leave all men so badgered.

Snipers surrounded those foolish enough to be seen,

Terror filled those natives as anger rushed dissolve,

Fake names passed freely onto wives of no face,

We must turn and keep brief our most vigilant resolve.

Now tired with no men at our sides but in oblivion,

Trumpets sound the new wave comes forth in plight,

Heavy eyes stare home to a country scorned in memory,

No reason again for the endless and never fair fight.

There is a price to pay for everything and wars cost a heavy price on lives and societies. Peace and justice should be our ultimate goals for it leaves a more lasting effect than bloodshed which creates more hatred and cycles of revenge.
You have penned a great piece on this subject...:)

War leave no winners. Only men with memories of death. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

I've written several poems about war and the after-effects so I know the pain and heartache that you have expressed in this piece. So much tragedy and so many who just try to forget. You did a wonderful job of describing this.

Its possible to apply oneself to most things with a creative flourish of words and expressions. But one area you'll never be able to do that is war. The sheer physical effort, the courage, the decision making and the fight to stay alive cannot be duplicated with words from the armchair. Your poem leaves room for improvement.

Thank you.
Very deep and concise thoughts of battle as well as the regretful aftermath. My best friend being an Iraqi vet, this reminded me of his journaling. This would be an awesome voiceover piece/narration to a war film.

Unique. Enjoyed!

Awe, that is high praise indeed, thank you x
I felt like this was a real battle. The write brings the reader into the mental state so fast that you have to puase and catch your breath as your read it to take it in.
Well done.
Favorite line, "Fake names passed freely onto wives of no face,". This is a part of war forgotten indeed.

Thank you very much x
A very poignant piece setting out the wants of war and its frail friends.
Don't know what you think but I saw the final line as :
'No reason again for the endless and unfair fight'
