Universe Feet

Universe Feet

A Poem by Katherine Haizlip
"

I wrote this about a small statue that one of my high school English teachers showed us in her class one day. It was a couple dancing together and they seemed to just flow into eachother.

"
So sure of the unknown
that their feet tread over the whittled ground
without noticing the etchings of some higher power
who wrote the secrets of the world
on the floor.

And the world conspires against the peace
that makes itself a hammock between those who stop to breathe.

They who know without the need for thought
that speech is worthless spoken
because the language of touch is earsplittingly silent.
And the eyes know more words
than the world has means for.
