Beauty Beyond the Bushes

Beauty Beyond the Bushes

A Poem by K. McNeil

Such a beautiful girl, traveling
Searching, trying to discover her purpose in this world
Uncovering many mistakes
Undoubtedly a rough path to her goal
Never giving up because without it she is not whole
Without Him she is lost so she continues
Following his voice
Passing by little children with no hope
And when they see her grace they smile
So she knows she’s going the right way
Unable to tell how many more miles till she reaches the horizon
She keeps traveling
Searching
Trying to discover
What she’s worth to this world
Of hate, crime, deceit, sin
Always fighting but in the end
No one wins
Tired of this seemingly endless journey
She rests
The smiling children stop running and playing
They disappear one by one
Not dying but fading away slowly
She arises quickly, disturbed and confused
The remaining children take her hands
Two on either, side and one walking in front of them, leading
They stopped and the child in front pushed back branches to uncover the most beautiful sight
The children released her hands and smiled
They ran and played with each other as they disappeared into the distance where she came from
But their smiles became permanent in her heart
It was then she knew why she had to continue
Exuding confidence with a smile of her own she continued
Searching and discovering
Until she found what she was looking for
Beyond those branches she found happiness and not just her own
It also belonged to the smiles captured in her heart
