The Dream

This poem is based on an actual dream I had one night in 2003.

I had a dream recently that changed my life for good.
It helped me see more clearly what I should have understood.
I dreamed it was the evening and I gazed up at the stars-
When suddenly I noticed one appearing to enlarge.
Then smaller ones came from it in an orderly way
and suddenly it occurred to me that today was judgement day.
And, as if in slow motion I waited and I watched.
I knew I'd be accepted because I'd given my life to God;
Still, I began to tremble and feel a sense of dread
because I didn't want Him to judge my life for the shame of how I lived.
My focus wasn't always on Him but on surviving my career;
I hadn't even begun to tithe though I planned to do it for years.
And there are those I've not forgiven or even witnessed to;
But most importantly, I thought, "What am I going to do?
I don't want my Savior to see all the wasted time and sin.
I want some more time on Earth to totally serve Him."
When I woke up I was relieved and thankful for the dream
and now I spend each day ensuring I live my life for Him.

^^ I like the rhythm and rhyme of this poem and thought it was cool you wrote about a dream you actually had. I sometimes feel joy to think the Lord will return and then feel a little dread because I want to make sure I make it. It is nice to be reminded of the importance of what we do and what we choose because we will be judged by it.
