“Beautiful Betrayal”

“Beautiful Betrayal”

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

“Beautiful Betrayal”
(The Never Evers)

Never let your guard down
Wait at least 30 minutes
Before you have to swim
In tragic and toxic waters

They come with a smile
But hold tiny daggers
Tiny hateful steel stilettos
Held in manipulative fingers

They will hold every secret
You shared in the moonlight
Until it is the right time
To bury you beneath them

They mask their intentions
With such seductive movements
A deadly deceptive dandelion
That smells faintly of blood

“I love only you”
“You can trust me”
“You’re my best friend”
The gold standard of lies

They consider you a simp
The patron saint of stupidity
Always the naïve nice guy
Destined to come in dead last

NEVER let them near you
NEVER put yourself last
NEVER believe their lies
NEVER become their martyr

Never ever forget life
Is too short to be miserable
Especially when the pain
Stem from such selfishness
