Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

A Poem by Nina Love

Sweettarts and

Construction-paper hearts,

Glitter and glue and "I love you"'s

Remind me of childhood sweethearts

Back when innocence was being a kid

And not a word to describe

Whether or not you're still a virgin.

Pink, blue, white and red

Valentines begging "will you be mine"

Hanging over head.

Candy hearts claiming love,

And sneeking kisses behind the storage shed.

Love was all about

The silly rhymes and chants.

...Sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

Now its all about the boys

Trying to get into your pants,

...First comes love, then comes a baby carridge!

But listen when I say,

If only for today,

We can pretend to be kids again

And be so innocently in love

On this valentine's day.

This was thoughtful. It read like a Hallmark commercial. I could see all of it happening in my head. This piece was good, and it fits in with the real meaning of Valetine's day instead of the commercialized reason which is basically give someone seomthing because you want something in return. Like sex and...........well j sex. I liked this. It made Valentine's Day feel like it's worth celebrating to me.
