The Breaking Of A Young Girls Heart

The Breaking Of A Young Girls Heart

A Poem by Nina Love

I met you not long ago,

When the sun still shined

And the days were long and hot.

You were silent and mysterious

From the start.

Weeks later you broke your silence

And befriended me.

We sat together,

But apart from others in our own

Secluded solitude.

A month passed quickly

And I fell in love,

Unfortunatley.

I snuck out and lied to see you.

I tried to explain what I felt,

You were flattered but confused,

How did I feel so much so soon?

Another month,

Still together

But no publicly,

I was forbidden to see you.

You chose now to tell me

You might be falling for me,

But we both know you'll be leaving soon.

A week later you broke my heart,

And tried to justify it

By saying it would be easier

To say goodbye sooner.

And you left within a month,

Leaving me to cry myself to sleep

And wonder if you did too.

Months had passed

And there I was, still thinking about you,

Healing bit by bit.

Learning to accept the truth

That I may never see you again.

Now here I am,

All but healed and whole.

Learning to be happy again,

And learning not to look back.

Making new memories to bury the old.
