A Poem by Lana

People I love have an expiration date
They always leave
Until I only got myself to love
I depend on it
In the end I have to love me
And in the days my battery is low
And I reject myself
I end up at the precipice of death
It's a dangerous game
You got to love yourself
You only got yourself to love
You depend on it

This is so powerfully true. Love always begins with self. From there it branches out like a tree and touches others who will come to love you as well. The message of your poem is so impactful and strong in its message. Thank you Sarah for sharing your poem with us.

Sometimes we have to be our own best friend, when nobody else is there for us. No use wallowing in self-pity (even though we all have done that). Adversity can make us stronger - it is up to us to learn the hard lessons of life. On a brighter note: love can come when you least expect it!
