DAWN'S LIGHT

DAWN'S LIGHT

A Poem by Lasergraph
"

The trials of an insomniac

"

I tossed and turned all night through,

I didn't sleep a wink.

My mind was racing way too fast,

But gave me time to think.

All the questions I ever had,

Were there for me to see,

And all the jobs I had left undone,

Came rushing back to me.

I thought that I would find answers,

But more questions came instead,

As I pondered the solutions,

From the safety of my bed.

The mind is full of energy,

All jumbled into thought.

About the struggles of the past,

And the battles that I've fought.

It is amazing all that happens,

In the middle of the night,

But how quickly they all vanish,

When dawn brings forth its light.

I really enjoy your poems. They are direct and engaging. Your style is succinct and simple. It makes for relaxing reads. Sometimes poets, including myself get so caught in a contemplative state that their poetry can be a bit cryptic and enigmatic, not a bad thing, but your work is refreshing in comparison.

It's nice, it flows like water in my opinion, slipping off the tongue, and it also feels very real, for how many people lie awake in their nights, thinking of tragedies long ago, and current problems, how the mind lights itself up at night but when the darkness of the world is given way to light, our minds start to stop in their tracks, and come back to reality.

I enjoyed this, it flows together nicely and it makes for a smooth read. For me, it kept me interested and you didn't reveal everything. It's clear that something is bothering you, but you don't say what and I wanted to know what you were hiding from and thinking about. It's short, sweet and simple and it worked for you without it sounding like a first grader wrote it. Great job, I look forward to reading more from you!
