Shackled Wings....

Shackled Wings....

A Poem by Bright Ocean Star
"

just a reminder that the darkness never lasts very long...

chained angels photo: angels _angels_.jpg

Shackled Wings….

Chained and bound

Unable to fly

Iron ring soldered tight

‘round yon ankle slight

Wings of feathers fitfully extend

no escape from chains of lead

Dearest beast’s panic breath

Wild eyes, fearful heart

Just out of the light, into the dark

Bright, white feathers reflect dearest moon

Chained, unable to roam, left to swoon

Darkness swallows her voice and her words

Terrible winds blow, rattling her fur

Curled up next to rock, brush, and cacti

Dust blows and tumbleweeds fly

Curled within her protective wings

Waiting for the fury to fizzle and sing

Winds whip, toss, and whistle

This way, and that until morning’s drizzle

long dark, tormented night

stretches onward until out of sight

Blackest pitch swallows thought

consciousness dims amid sleep gently brought

Dew appears amid the few grass blades

Untouched by yonder wind

and night’s wicked cavalcade

Dawns light breaks aft horizon

Indigo, saffron, and sunburst yellows

Paint the sky oft darkest night’s shadow.

Morning breaks, winds are gone

Day springs bright and new; shackles dissolve

wings extend, no chains in sight!

to harness the beauty of this creature’s flight.

Darkest fears and tortured thoughts

Fade amid sleep’s restful draught

Morning breaks, a new day dawns

Light chases the darkness hither and yon

This is a very compelling write, because it shows us that it's always darkest before the dawn, and one must travel through the darkness in order to find the light.

I love how you bring in images of nature and the vibrant colors of the sky to brighten this message.

Nicely penned.

"Paint the sky oft darkest night’s shadow." particularly love that line!! i also think your closing line is superb ... that battle is never really over is it?! at least on this earth ;) ... thank you for the reminder of a very difficult lesson ... its not so much having /getting knowledge, strength, expansive wisdoms, miraculous rescue etc. etc. so much as acceptance, trust and that mustard seed of faith ... thats when the dawn breaks eh!? a deep, thoughtful, inspiring poem .. loaded with personifications and visuals .. enjoyed reading!

All things must pass. I admire the way you compared chains to fears and tortured thoughts for they are one in the same. Your description of images is appropriate to the storms that pass internally within the disturbed mind. Angels in chains is a great metaphor to use to get your point across and you do it well here. Well done.

As you know, I'm not religious at all, but I have read the bible and for some reason this made me think of the whole Noah's ark story. No idea if that was in your thoughts when you were writing this, but just how everything was dark and doom but then it all fell away to something new.

Regardless, this is an uplifting piece, for sure. Actually one I needed right now. I think we all need to be reminded that darkness isn't forever. Thank you for posting something so wonderful.

wow.. this is really powerful!! so much that darkness takes away from us, and what desolation it brings instead of joy and happiness.
The imagery was perfect to match the theme and the mood of the poem. I am happy that you see the end to darkness in its vile form. :D

I am in love with your rhymes...as I have often said...tumbleweed has such an amazing sound...it sits so nicely on the tongue...plus that blade - cavalcade rhyme...your poems have a way of inspiring me, and making me happy... :)) kudos for this brilliant one...darkness isn't a palpable or measurable quantity, it is not a thing in itself, it is merely the absence of light, and so cannot last long...well said!! :))
Sending you hugs from half way across the globe.. :))

i do like the almost mythological sense i get from this piece, but also the idea of how our fears can chain us ....and how we need to let go...or we will stay imprisoned in that fear for the rest of our lives.
