Caged

Caged

A free spirit

fluttering with delicacy

by your harsh words

she is only caged

A free spirit,

by you she is caged.

it is your lock and key

that cause her pain

to this day

you keep her locked up

inside your expectations

which crush her hopes and dreams

once a free spirit,

now a songbird in disguise

her dreams are far from lost today

but tomorrow’s winds are stronger

from her you have taken

her wings of ivory

replaced them with your horrid chains

maybe one day she’ll be free

I loved the emotions this one set free written with a reality that alot can perhaps relate to as well! In so many ways we are caged.. manipulated.. discarded.. overlooked.. loved.. hated.. by someone. Expectations are an everyday thing.. sometimes expectations can exceed rationality even.

Your wording throughout made me think of a beautiful wild bird and it makes a reader want to free what has become a songbird even though it may not survive.. the cage and horrid chains are just unbearable to think of. Limitless metaphors exist in this that can relate to people or even life itself in so many ways.. very nicely penned!
