My Old Shirt

My Old Shirt

A Poem by Larry Dyson
"

for a writing contest.

"

An old flannel shirt resembles me in everyway...

it looks and feels it's age ...along with the wrinkles..

and the worn spots on the elbows and along the tails.

What colors will it be?

Will it have buttons or snaps?

Does the collar have stays or does it button down?

Do I resemble my shirt or ...

does it mimic Me and all my ecentricities

We make the clothes so they say but our clothes do become us at the same time. I never looked at one of my shirts in this way but I guess I do have my favorites that really have become a part of who I am as much as I am apart of them. Interesting writes and comparisons I find in all your writes. Well done

The clothes maketh the man ... if your shirt has style and class, then it surely resembles you. If the shirt fits .... =)

I love the rhetorical question at the end. The only answer is both.

Clever and very relatable. Should be a top consideration in the contest.

The sentimental value can never be replaced... I have a couple shirts that are like old friends brining comfort. I like the ending and comparing yourself to it.

When will it be tossed aside or given to the Goodwill Store? As long as it is not a hair shirt, one does develop an affinity for one's clothes and even furniture, especially chairs. Old shirt, old chair, old friends and an old whisky - getting old trumps the frenetic young - in some ways.
Excellent poem.

I like the comparison of you and your flannel shirt though I would have picked you more of a leather type guy or jeans. I love the details and the questions asked in this piece.

Are you all buttoned up
Covered with squares and stripes
Soft and cushy
Warm and comforting?
