Monogamous Friends With Benefits

Monogamous Friends With Benefits

A Poem by Emily Leonard

You ask me what we are
And I can't say that I know
So I will tell you what I do know and what I don't

I know that you live 2 hours and 47 minutes away
That I yearn for you closer
That you're trapped right now
That I want to be trapped with you
That I'm terrified
That you comfort me
That people are s**t
That you're not
That pain shoots through my body whenever I see you grimace
That my lips tremble from smiling for so many hours
That scars cover your body
That I want to kiss every one
That the words that escape your mouth sometimes leave me near tears
That your mouth is all I can think about at times

I don't know how we grew so close so fast
How long it will be until we're both free
How your lips would feel on mine
How much we'll have to wait
How fast your heart beats
How we'll make this work

But I know that I want it to
