should have

should have

A Poem by liltornado

This hurt, bequeathed inside of me

I walk without chains, but still I’m not free

This love you left when asked to meet,

I rejected without question, regretfully

Behind the stars I see more darkness,

Life is not life, still in death’s way

Trapped as the prisoner in my love for you,

I’m sorry I became who I never wanted to be

Would you look my way with peace?

I’m lost in daydreaming,

I wear this pain because I’ve learned

Without you nothing has meaning

This hurt you need to know

That harbors inside of me,

I walk without shackles or chains but

This love is restricting

The night you requested after I ruined

My chance, to still see me one more time

A perfect close it would have been instead of

My eternal, echoing cry

Hummmm - a sadly poignant poetic reflection of NOT having an amiable 'clean break' to a relationship. And, also the doubts over making the right decisions at the time. Your word play and stanza flow guides the reader thought your thoughts and creates an imagery of this unhappiness - very good write! :-)
