Blurry Eyed

Blurry Eyed

A Poem by Donald Meikle

A wheelbarrow full of rain

A redwing blackbird that won't shut up

another chipmunk not long for this world

a garden that's grown' grass faster than goodies

a gardener's figure disappearing in tears of love

Summer's just around that next flowery bush

And here was me thinking it was only my childhood that had a wheelbarrow full of rain in the garden. Excellent imagery of a garden/life in need of attention.

Great imagery Donald...we can ALL relate to, on one level or another...
Would liked to have seen a squirrel instead of that cute little chipmunk and absolutely love the line "summer's just around that next flowery bush".
Very fresh, homeowner's lament...
if you know what I mean...
Perhaps a more appropriate Title would be "Ode to a Homeowner's Garden"...just kidding, Title is just fine
I can see you waking and walking out on the deck and observing all of these things...
Great write Donald

Wow! Absolutely spot on. You took me on a big journey in six succinct lines. I'm bushed!

I love how you bring these scenes to life, they're so vivid, so succinct and direct so that this one in particular, of course, but your poems in general remind me of William Carlos Williams (someone had to say it). I adore his work as I adore yours. I can almost hear the redwing's incessant chirping.

with me and brings a summer breeze. Wonderful piece.

Your poetry never fails to please. Your use of these wonderful metaphors with nature is pleasing to the senses.
I hope there are many flowery bushes around every corner my friend!
