Interesting video, so are we now moving more to the collapse of reality by fiction? The examples the lecturer gave, thought provoking. You pick some really intellectual topics to write about David, and ask my opinion? I am smiling because you really give my half dead brain cells a dusting.

I really hated reading that book (simulacra & simulacrum by J B). Baudrillard is kind of a pretentious dick hole.

But he wasn't wrong. We are all of us removed from reality... usually for a living.

The Matrix movie franchise was based off Baudrillard's work. (too bad only one of those movies was worth anything)

Selective perception is a reality. Its very creepy and scary if one thinks deeply on it. This is very cleverly written.

Either that will be what pushes us to our next stage of evolution or it will be what keeps us from that next step. I'm mildly attractive with a decent set of conversation skills and interesting topics to talk about... yet, I masturbate far, far more than I have sex. There is a reason for that and it's not because I'm shy.

Thinking of it, it should be the other way round, I mean, selective perception should facilitate closeness. Or maybe I need to know something here.

I can't make an intelligent selection without first being close enough to have enough valid information to go on. In reality there's probably a compromise between the two; if we rely purely on one we'd fall for something terrible without knowing until it's too late and if we rely purely on the other we might miss something and/or possibly be a little prejudiced based on how things look from the outside. Personally, I like to get close before I make my selection. I've been duped into a selection I shouldn't have gotten close to from relying on fancy window dressing before. I might be a little biased on this one.

That's a nice logical way of going about it yet I wonder if its ever really possible to really really know anybody and by that I mean what really goes in their mind. Though I look for certain markers (and a bit of dressing matters of course ;)) I mainly go on faith. I've paid for it sometimes but I find I can't change.

It's something I take for granted in the civilian world. I hated being in the military but one of best things about that kind of thing is that you get to objectively know the qualities of those around you. When you train for life and death situations together you tend to find out certain things you wouldn't otherwise. And when real life hits it shows you things about yourself you wouldn't otherwise even know was in there.
And always eventually - being deployed into real world high tempo combat situations with the good one's is something singular and amazing... despite the unavoidble awfulness - you will discover the true qualites of yourself and those you' call you brothers from another mother. Not a whole lot of people get that oppurtunitty at any point in their life.

Our lives might be in the process of becoming a 'living billboard' in the name of advertisement and revenue share... or perhaps we are already there. Or maybe I'm full of s**t.
