So Good it hurts

some of us torture ourselves

 from a cage of pain

 into freedom

 and back again

practicing the science of suffering

 cleaning ourselves with filth

 to see what's really clean

 to just get very dirty again

enjoying the delusion of a pure existence

deeply hoping

that maybe eventually

the light will no longer burn my eyes to see

but always knowing...

it will never very truly feel good

if you don't remember how bad it can hurt
