Lunch date

A Poem by Little_lady
"

This poem is a few years old now but still one of my favourites. It takes me back to that slightly awkward but exhilarating new love feeling. I have edited this several times and this is the final

"
i found you there, waiting
your eyes lit up the rain
jumper plastered to your skin

you put your arm around my waist,
fumbled
with my useless umbrella

i breathed
in rain & smelt
the iron tattoo of the pavements &

you laughed at me, said i did not wear
enough. it was an august day
& you had raindrops on your lashes

we reached the cafe, then. damp and earthy,
we did not order froth. Our feet met
under the table

outside, we watched a drain burst,
and a four foot gush of swollen water shoot
up into the air
