Armor

Armor

A Poem by L Lopez

Looking in the mirror,

I see I am so fresh.

Hiding all my fears

In my manner of dress.

I’m messing with the world,

Putting up a big front.

A big F**k You I hurled,

As I lit up my blunt.

I’ve got ink in my skin

Showing my rebellion.

Displaying all my sin,

Hear all I be tellin’.

Rocking white a*s kicks

To hide my calloused feet.

I’ve absorbed so many licks,

Pretending I never got beat.

Aviator glasses

Be shading my brown eyes.

In my eyes life flashes,

It all be truth no lies.

Short tight brown curly hair

Sending off a message.

But please be most aware

That it’s not a presage.

Read the words on my shirt

Sample my politics.

Fire with which you don’t flirt

You stick to your old tricks.

With pants always sagging,

Hiding my body shape.

Confidence I’m lagging,

Led me to fill with hate.

Standing here with arms crossed

I’m trying to scare you.

A glance at you I tossed,

It’s a defense I do.

Go ahead and read me

By my loud appearance.

I am just like you, see

You won’t find no difference.
