Components Repeating

Components Repeating

A Poem by Lindsey M.

There's a rock down there

That only tears can break up

There's a slab of limestone

Gravelly and hard

Chipped away

until it was almost gone

But it grew and grew

Until it lodged in the throat

And pierced the heart

With its ragged edges

And its vicious grey interior

I can feel it down there

Filling me up

Knocking me down

Pulling me in

And throwing me out

I need to resolve it.

There is a method in this.

First comes the thoughts

Thoughts like rivers

Wide and blue,

strong and swift

Thoughts like picked strawberries

In the patterned sunlight of fall

Then comes the Words

The Words are boats

Large, fantastic ships

Full of beautiful people

The Words are the lanterns

Shining on the surface of a sea of stars

Then comes the final step

The axe

The physical pounding

The axe takes many forms:

The heart

The brain

Or those on the outside

The axe breaks the rock up

Until breathing comes again

Fresh smooth air in

Pebbles and dust out

Fresh smooth air in

Fresh smooth air out

Repeat.

Repeat.

Repeat.

Repeat.
