No Limits

a villanelle about striving for perfection

I won’t accept my limitations now

For neither have I reached my body’s peak

Nor let my mind give up on why and how

Instead I strive and sweat to keep my vow

With muscles trembling, mind and stomach weak

I won’t accept my limitations now

Some others watch me strain and raise their brow

But neither will I heed them when they speak

Nor let my mind give up on why and how

They preach of peace that limits can allow

But sill my pace their murmur cannot break

And why accept my limitations now?

So let them set their expectations low

And find their joy without the strength to seek

And let their minds let go of why and how

Achievement is the only peace I know

I spit away the mantra of the weak

I won’t accept my limitations now

Nor let my mind give up on why and how

I have to admit, I've forgotten exactly how the villanelle format goes. I wrote this several years ago; however if you do suggest revisions, please be sure they fit into that format. Thanks
