Daughter's Plea

Daughter's Plea

A Poem by lockwood5
"

a poem written from the perspective of a yet-to-be-conceived daughter demanding understanding from her soon-to-be father

"

Dear Father

soon to be beloved Dad,

As I am yet contained in halves inside of you and Mom

and as desire has maddened you as you have gazed on her

Decide

before you plant me to allow

that I will someday feel and thrill as you do now.

Acknowledge that the spark that you supply

imparts to my new soul, a greater dowry than

the skin and bone

the blood and breath of life alone

For surely you can feel the reflex it contains

the little death that shakes you as it wanes

Accept the deal you make with me

Someday I'll break your heart

Accept!

Or catch me now before I start.

While this poem is line-broken to match the voice and not the form, this is a sonnet (14 lines of iambic pentameter). If you suggest changes, please make sure the ABAB rhyme scheme and meter stays true to the hidden quatrains.
