Older Brother

Older Brother

A Poem by Rebecca

Older brother,

I miss you so.

I wonder why you had to go.

I wonder why you had to die

And leave me here to cry and cry.

Older brother

You've been gone so long

I wonder why I can't move on.

Your laughter still echoes

in my ear

I swear it the greatest sound

to ever hear.

Older brother,

 I hope you knew

My happiest memories

Are of me and you.

You taught how to ride my bike

And to even tie my shoe

And when I had an awful day

The first person I went to was you.

But then I saw what happened

The cancer ate you away

And all we ever did

Was pray for another day

Mom pulled me out of school that day

With tears running down her face

And my body filled with dismay

When she pulled me in a strong embrace

And I still don't understand

Why you went away

I love you, Older Brother

That's all I have to say.

It's really sad and I'm sorry for your brother. My dear English teacher died from liver cancer a year ago. This poem of yours reminded me of him. You really loved your brother. This is a melancholic piece of poetry. You have a great talent to sketch your sorrows with words. The rhyming is beautiful.
