this side of the ocean...

this side of the ocean...

A Poem by Brad
"

lamenting...

"

From this side of the ocean

Things look bleak

Rough white capped death

Awaiting to engulf me

Into her depths

If I could send my spirit

Over the waves

Within the skin of a dolphin

Cutting through the water

To reach the other side

But what would be the point

I would only have to leave again

E Hine E, Hoki mai ra

Ka Mate aue

E te aroha E

So I chase the sunsets

Flee the sunrises

On that endless search

For you…

Author's Note

Brad
the quotations are taken from a maori song "pokarekareana"- pronounced (poe-car-ray-car-ray ah nah). The first line (ay hee nay ay) "oh woman oh", second line (ho-key my-rah) "come back to me", third line (ka mah-tay ah-oh) "to life i wait", fourth line (ee-tay ah-row-hah ay) "for my love to return"

sending the spirit over the waves in the skin of a dolphin, thats tranquil but holds so much its overwhelming....
this is such a 'take you there' poem in all the feeling it holds, which i would say perfect with its scenery
you bring people to a heart filled fluid rushing yet calm place because you put the imagery feeling and truth of the poem in one fistful always

Deeply moved by this lament. Your author's note made it even more beautiful as it expanded understanding and depth. In awe.

I think the Maori song really works for the poem. I so agree with Henry down there,

"If I could send my spirit
Over the waves
Within the skin of a dolphin" - these lines are true essence to your poem. I'm in awe.

Funny how sometimes moods can travel even over the internet. It would seem a few of us have decided to write about someone we lost, or miss, or just need in our hearts. Maybe it's the time of year, maybe it's the final breath before the rebirth....don't know. But this was very beautiful.

Regards,

Matthew

What a beautifully sad, passionate poem! Whilst your words flow and drift like the tide there's a grey lack of hope, of ever reaching that longed for place, person, ' So I chase the sunsets ~ Flee the sunrises ~ On that endless search ~ For you… '

Thank you so much for the bonus translation of your maori song ..
