Pour mon chou

Pour mon chou

A Poem by Luisa
"

Pour mon petit chou, qui j'aime avec tout ma cœur.

"

I wanted to tell you all my wishes,

but as much as I try to be realistic,

and not believe in wishes,

I don’t want to risk any of them

not coming true.

So I can’t tell you

that every time I see a falling star,

every time I find a fallen eyelash,

you are the only thing I wish for

that all I ask for is

a long time with you,

maybe forever, if I’m feeling lucky,

and happiness for us both,

together.

I can’t tell you that I think of your face

and smile to myself, and hope desperately

that we’ll always love each other

the way we did yesterday,

the way we do today.

I can’t tell you that I sometimes leave myself out

and wish only for you,

that you’re happy, and safe, and satisfied

with or without me

(but even then, I hope I’m there,

by your side)

I can’t tell you any of this,

but I hope someday

when it’s all come true

I can whisper it in your ear

fearlessly

I enjoy this poem as it has a voice that is willing to break the standard parameters of rhyme that I myself even adhere to most often. I enjoy, personally, the sense of desire, frustration, and even apprehension at the possibility of 'what may be' transfiguring into 'what is not.' But you and I both know that is not the case, and in your cannots you find the way to voice your should nots, and still you lure me in.

Perhaps I may be negative, and perhaps you yourself, positive. But together we find balance, and in balance, I find love. And I find that I love you, and love you ineffably.

There is so much fearful anticipation of the future on this piece but the love is there all along that which matters most. We are always scared of the extreme, aren't we?
