Glass Gaze

Glass Gaze

A Poem by Indra's Child

Blank eyes stare up at me,

From my canvas below.

Features run amok,

From the forehead to the jawbone.

Those parted lips,

Crisped by dry air,

And parched by words,

Those placid glassy marbles,

Frozen in fear,

Not unlike my own.

I, too, don't know where I am.

To be drawn from my home in such...

...chaos,

At the break of dawn.

At gunpoint and threatened,

By the chill air,

Biting at my naked calves,

And nipping at my neck.

Taken by wagon, blindfolded and

Battered,

By the force of the winds,

Under strict command.

Reminiscing about the days when this, too,

Seemed like a distant nightmare,

Far too far,

To even ever matter.

I, too, understand the stripping,

Of the bark from the tree,

Scarring of the skin,

Enemies on a bender, blending

Flesh and bone together...

The delicate three words,

That might make it better,

Don't begin to make a dent,

Unless happily ever after

Is a dream in the mind of the

Evident destroyer, laughter

Piercing the grace ,

Hanging from the rafters,

While you gather up your rags and tatters,

Bunches of cloth brought up,

Like a dress, storied caresses,

Underneath your blood-soaked thighs,

Before you test the waters...

To dive...

...deep,

Into the depths of your soul,

And impale your body,

On the glass gaze,

Of your reflection.

I just want to wake up from the dream. "Hi. It's me. I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I imagine you can also feel me. You won't have to search for me anymore. I'm done running. Done hid.. more..
