What Happened

What Happened

A Poem by Mackenzie Louise
"

this is a poem about the first time I got my heart broken

"
I always wondered why people say they have a broken heart, because your emotions are manifested in your brain, not your heart. Your heart just pumps blood throughout your body.

And then you left me, and I remember thinking, “This is it. This is what they talk about when people claim to have a broken heart.” I could feel your absence in my chest when every beat of my heart rattled my bones, I could feel it in my lungs when my breath became short and I thought for the first time that you would actually kill me.

This was also the time that I learned first hand that the people you love the most will destroy you, whether you, or they know it or not.

I remember once on a cold and unforgiving day you told me that you would spend all the money in the world on tea for my sore throat despite you not liking it. That was when I realized I was in love with you.

But you don't love me.
