The Journey Back

The Journey Back

A Poem by Madeline Man

I have flown far to often

Through wistful thoughts and woven tears

On wings of shattered glass

But I'm still flying

Somewhere I hear a piano's song

Telling stories of summer

So I might find my way back

To those who I love

Flying with joy through a thunderstorm

To the shelter of a tree

With leaves that paint the sky with poems

Written by past friends

I fly to the highest branch

And through the leaves I see a window

Leading to masked memories

And I fly to them

The fear of loss battles my spirit

And I hesitate to find

The seas of secrets hidden in thoughts

I leave air for sea

And so I escape from doubt

And leave behind my lost wings of glass

To soar though skies of stories

On new wings of bliss...
