Lace

Lace

A Poem by Malice Hook

We go through day to day
Pretending we don't pretend
When it's easier to see through
Than lace is against my skin.

Just give me one more hint,
I'll swallow it whole;
I just need your reassurance
That I'm aimed at the right goal.

I'll carve myself real,
Stitch permanents into me,
Learn to be myself
And change accordingly.

I won't skip the pres,
I won't overlook the posts.
But the in between
Is what matters the most.

So put down your cigarette,
Just long enough for me to talk.
I'm seeing the repercussions
Of running before I walk.
