F*****g Weather

F*****g Weather

A Poem by Mari R-J

On days like today I miss my Island.
Rain that turns into ice that turns into snow.
Winds that freeze your bones and often your soul.

I miss the sun burning my pale cheeks.
I miss the sudden afternoon showers lifting fog.
Smell of dirt and rain coming into my Grandpa's porch.

I miss the smiles and unsolicited hugs.
I miss the blessings and the prayers for lost things.
Warmth of hearts covering your sweaty skin.

On days like this I curse this forsaken place.
But then I remember how my son never wears a coat
And how my daughter smiles when it snows.

Then I remember the hearts that lifted me up
With their cold hands and my love with his warm chest.
Even frozen places where plants die can be called home.

Powerful imagery...
As a visual person,
I appreciate works like this, dearly.
Something that can take my mind from lush greenery
to snowy places & talk about so much more is usually a winner in my book. The title alone... this piece is difficult *not* to like. Well done, writer.
