Purple Rain

Purple Rain

A Poem by Markus Anthony
"

Purple rain is said to be a deep longing or desire that will likely not be met.

"
You became that girl
Since alcohol caved in my system.
Gave me a little push and pull the lever.
That night the scent of your hair,
like camphor and sweat
took me to sobriety
A tiny peck on your cheek
was all I can muster.

We painted red as we danced on the table
with colored lights that tingle
in slow mo, in subtle ripple
to the sound of the modern bands
whose singers you like up to hair strands
stares were all we met below
however your eyes smiled in daze
as I drank in your beautiful face.

now you're here with me
at last.
in a silent spot away from the city
We took the night by slowly
And hoped the sun to stay out maybe
for you to talk more about your Monday
for me to still listen to your voice
had anything given me choice.

Slowly
You took me in, and I breathed in you
I gave in as you had
Even if the world is against us
We were carnal, we were fire
Every fiber of intimacy
Dormant in our bodies
Found release and mere safety.

Morning came
Your heart fragile as crystal
I hear it beat against my skin
As you lay on my chest
to a mountain of pillows above us
We leave the world as we rest
Wishing for another life
To call you my first best.

How can I break it to you
When we're under the blue sky
and the moon is ever perfect
and the sun meant a promise
Maybe in another life or,
Some other time whatever
But if the clock hits the right time
I can't stay forever

Why was I not made to wonder
and question and ponder
That I did this to you
when im bound to another
When love has cooled
and in search for warthm
you were there
with wide opened arms.

The creeping maturity
had now flowed in our veins
took over our system
a profusion to our brains
we set a week to be our last together
beyond it, is up to none
we'll be good friends
and hurt no one.

The last rain of May was purple
The flood on your shirt were my tears
The maple in my eyes met yours
Glistening,
in the tainting orange of the street lights
that devoured us as we kissed
and the taxi headed towards home
to the last place I called you my own.

As we crown the trees in June
Towards a new chapter
starting off in white and endless duties
You in chocolate hills, road trips
and meeting kittens on the road
We set for a new tomorrow
No more star gazing in a pick-up truck
Just the growth of memories kept in a box.

Prince explained the meaning of "Purple Rain" as : "When there's blood in the sky – red and blue = purple... purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/god guide you through the purple rain."
This epic and sad tale is a good read as you take us from meeting to parting and provide such detail in between. It does appear free verse mixed with a few stray rhymes?

To be honest with you, I usually find it hard to pay attention to a long romantic and/or heartbreak saga like this, but yours held my attention. Even tho your storyline does not hold anything fresh or inventive (same old cheating shithead trying to paint this exploitation as being more noble than it really is) . . . I like the way you tell a story by showing more than telling. You use a ton of details taken from the physicality of the situation, as well as sharing the feelings & impressions. It's a well-told love story, even if a little predictable! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

A story here of a beautiful union that was not destined to last. A fleeting moment in time, that would end up as a delicious memory. Nicely penned Markus. Plenty of action and colour in your lines.

This makes me think of of summer romance had by youth. Where the mind says we only have a few more days and the heart says let's collect each one.
Some of those memories will last a lifetime. No box required, :) and c.o.d.
