Sky's The Limit

Sky's The Limit

A Poem by Monty.

"Sky’s the limit…" they used to say

Nights sneaking out a window to just gaze up at the stars

& wonder if a shooting star really granted wishes

If there was more hidden behind the vast inky black

Why did they stop saying that

"Sky’s the limit kiddo"

What happened to that look they got when they said it

To the spark and smile that glowed from they’re faces

Have they all faded away?

Become simple mirages that passed by

Misted & faint; seemingly unreal sometimes

Some look past and regret

Others look forward and long

Some just look now & laugh

With ribbons in her hair

Dancing to some unheard tune

In an open field surrounded by nothing

But the inky black sky & passing clouds

& those twinkling stars with mischievous smiles

They say she’s crazy

A dreamer & nothing more

He says she’s free.

When all the spark has gone from others

Must it too disappear from you?

Or can you still keep/cherish/love

What you have & yet still be able to give it back

To those it has gone from?

When love is key

& laughter is medicine

The sky’s the limit

Your heart is open

Your mind is wild

The stars are wishes

Your dreams are your own

Don’t promise not to forget someone you love

Promise yourself not to forget who you’ve loved

When nothing seems to go right randomly smile

& remember there are endless things given to

us that will always catch us when we fall

When things seems out of reach

Open your hands

& if you do or don’t catch it

At least you tried to reach for that star

in an ever distant sky
