Cocka Doodle Doo

Cocka Doodle Doo

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Cocka Doodle Doo

My consciousness is always present

No matter where and on which side of the veil

Whether in daytime dreams

Day dreams or the dreams of night

My consciousness, like the sun is always shining

It is my mind alone that hibernates a rhythmic lull

Of taking solitary footsteps into the night

Into the dark

So that again

The morning sun is seen from fresh eyes

My mind like the rooster hungers for the taste of sunshine

Pecking through the core of seeds on the ground

That have soaked its promise in full

Perhaps the most delicious are those seeds

That bury deep inside

Underneath the dark fogs of forgetfulness

And from that place like the cocka doodle doo of the rooster

Spring forth at dawn

And like the colors of the rooster feathers

Spill out an inspiring rainbow of emotions

And I peck and peck

To unravel

The very fiber, the very sunshine

Through them all
