Secrets

Secrets

A Poem by Amber

Secrets

Hidden, is my box of secrets..

Never to be found,

From my youth till my death, it holds..

Never will you hear it’s little latch unfold..

It’s locked up tight in a tomb of gold..

Shadowed by armored guards that never close their eyes..

As each day I go on, knowing no one will compromise..

But one day I was foolish and dropped my key,

My love, lied and said he didn’t know a thing,

He snuck through every hidden door and came to just a place, he showed my guards the beauty that they had always thought was a waste..

He walked through my tomb, of death and despair, of loneliness and nightmares..

I told him not to go, I told him to leave it alone…

But he took the box of secrets, and shared with me some of his own..

He showed mine on a screen, to everyone who could see,

As my tears made a salty sea..

Boats wrecked upon the shores jagged with rocks..

As my heart turned silent, and my life stopped.

He disappeared and my box was empty as could be..

So I took it and burned it, I have no secrets left to keep…
