A Perfect Facade

A Perfect Facade

A Poem by mathiasthom

Every day is the same routine
step from the shower,
primp for an hour,
emerge from the bathroom
with a painted on face

Cover up those imperfections
colored contacts to hide the black,
that seeps and rallies against the cracks
of a perfect facade,
breaking down the doors
only to be put on display,
nobody is observing, anyway...

Another shielded layer just flakes away
Breaking down with the subtlety of rust
Smearing colors, anti-trust,
a thousand emotions disintegrate

Alone with some headphones
singing along to someone else's misery
not realizing, the story of your life
truly embedded in a song

To your room,
man the windows
peer from behind the curtains
The world is indifferent,
going its separate way

This phone will never ring,
broken feelings will never mend
The monotonous feeling
of sterility,
echoes within every heart beat...
